Education

I have an honours degree in English Studies and a first class post-grad degree in teaching secondary English from two esteemed English Universities. I also have a diploma in TEFL. I have been teaching in Western Australia since 2007 and am currently in the UK, available online only.

Experience

I have taught English and Literature courses (TEE/WACE/ATAR) in public and independent-public schools in Western Australia for over ten years. I taught Stage 2 and 3 English from 2007 until the courses changed to ATAR. I have taught Year 11 and 12 ATAR over the last few years since the new courses were implemented. I also have several years experience in Stage 3 and ATAR Year 12 Literature. I have tutored my students after school and before school over the last decade and seen significant improvements in their results, but I have recently moved into tutoring private students as well. I have tutored with Academic Task Force at Perth Modern. I can confidently teach students how to analyse classic written texts such as Shakespeare's plays and poems, The Crucible, The Handmaid's Tale, etc; as well as more modern texts such as Jasper Jones and The Rosie Project. I can teach visual texts such as film, adverts, documentary, graphic novels and still image analysis to a high standard using mnemonics and a structured approach. I am confident in teaching expository writing, analytical essays, persuasive speeches and other forms of creative writing. I can also tutor students with more of a focus on basic literacy rather than extension/literary analysis, and can cater to younger students. I also have limited experience teaching ATAR ESL to Senior School students.

Hobbies

I enjoy reading gothic fiction, crime thrillers and biographies. Cult television is a passion of mine, for example The Walking Dead. I also like to watch independent films by my favourite directors and have an interest in French culture. My favourite authors are Haruki Murakami and Margaret Atwood. At the moment I am only working in an online capacity.
