Experience
I want to be a tutor because I love learning and eventually would like to teach at the university level while continuing my research in marine science. I am currently working part-time at UWA while I work on publishing my masters research thesis, which looked at movement patterns of four shark species in WA. I am interested in teaching all ages and levels, particularly in maths and science. I love teaching and tutoring because I thoroughly enjoy finding ways to relate complicated ideas and material to the individual and present material in a way that makes it interesting. I have strong skills in a variety of sciences and maths resulting from my broad university background. My university education has also allowed me to develop excellent writing skills and a very solid understanding of the Microsoft Office suite (specifically word and excel). I also enjoy editing, providing feedback for or assisting in the planning of written assignments such as essays and reports. During my studies I was consistently at the top of my class and often tutored my fellow students. Currently I am assistant teaching 4th and 5th year UWA students in units focusing on statistical modelling of ecological data using R statistical software.

Hobbies
I grew up in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada, which inspired my love for the outdoors. From a child I loved hiking, swimming, yoga, rock climbing and snowboarding, but it wasn't until I first went traveling abroad that I fell in love with the ocean and scuba diving. After completing my bachelors degree I spent almost a year living in Mexico working as a volunteer for various marine conservation projects before moving to Perth to commence my masters at UWA. If you are looking for a tutor who is enthusiastic and positive, mature enough to take the position seriously but young enough to still relate well to younger generations (I'm 29 :)), then I am likely the right fit for you, or your son or daughter.
