Experience
I have 4 and half years primary teaching experience across all ages and all subjects. I taught for 2 and half years in the UK and have been teaching in Perth for 2 years. I have also taught specialist music and can teach violin and piano. I structure every lesson clearly and my teaching mantra as I do, We do, You do. I start off by explaining to the child what we are going to learn in the lesson and why it is important that we learn this. I then start with a quick warm up to revise what we learnt in the previous lesson. This puts the brain into gear and also embeds prior knowledge so it becomes automatic. I then teach the main concept of the lesson through modelling. I use a range of methods to explain a concept, I normally use a mix of verbal and written explanations along with videos, physical resources and drawings. We then work through some examples together and once the child is confident, they work through some examples on their own, knowing that if they get stuck I am sitting right there to help. I normally end the lesson with a more challenging problem solving question to broaden their understanding and deepen their knowledge, these questions can often lead to further exploration either on their own at home or with their parents.
