I hold a Bachelor's in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Xi'an International Studies University, and also a CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). In addition, I hold a Master of Arts in Interpreting Mandarin-English from the University of Manchester, UK.

Experience

I currently work as a classroom ESL teacher in Perth, and I have been providing private and small group tutoring of a variety of subjects, including Mandarin Chinese, ESL, IELTS, PTE, and NAATI CCL interpreting exams in Melbourne and Perth since 2018. I was a bilingual Second Language teacher specializing in integrating listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in guided immersive learning at Malvern College in China from 2015 to 2018. The most common words my students described me are innovative, approachable, and trustworthy. I take a three-pronged approach to teaching. I adjust my teaching methods based on the student. Every learner has different dispositions and preferences when learning languages. The most effective way to learn a language is to explore learners' interests and design teaching accordingly. I also incorporate cultural teachings. Learning a language is never just about the language per se, it's about understanding its culture so learners can really apply linguistic knowledge to real-life communications. My teaching is fun yet linguistically rigorous.

My name is Char and I'm originally from Xi'an, China but live in Perth, Australia.
