Professional Knowledge and Professional Practice
I am a dedicated, innovative and knowledgeable Science Teacher which is reflected from my academic qualifications and teaching experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Science (Chemistry, Biology), Master’s and Ph.D. Degrees in Microbiology and a further Bachelor of Education Degree in Physical and Biological Sciences has given me the academic knowledge and necessary skills required to successfully teach Science to all year levels. This has equipped me with a wide range of instructional and engagement strategies to motivate students and ensure high standards of teaching and learning. I know and can explain the science behind all the steps required to teach all levels and can show/explain the progression and steps expected in classes. For example, if I am teaching simple atomic structure to a year 8 student, and he/she is intuitive enough to ask why electrons do not fall into the atoms’ nucleus, I can explain why to him at an appropriate year 8 level. The same theories about atomic structure would need to be explained differently to a year 12-gifted student.
While working as a science teacher (Upper Secondary Chemistry and Biology) at various schools in WA and in India, I developed strong understanding about the strategies to teach academic students and to differentiate the lesson content to meet individual requirements of the students.
Maintaining a positive relationship with the parents is very vital for effective teaching and learning, because they reflect the type of students that come into the classroom. I strive and succeeded to establish and maintain respectful collaborative relationships with parents/carers regarding their children’s learning and wellbeing. I believe that for students’ learning parents play a very important role. Collaborating with parents and involving them in their child’s education process serves as an effective strategy to keep students on track and help them achieve their learning goals. My effective communication at parent-tutor meetings and through phone calls regarding feedback on test scores, accomplishments, areas needing extra attention and concerns if any, apprise parents/carers of their child’s progress and help them to devise strategies to promote education at home by establishing a study routine and helping their child in completing the assigned assessment tasks on time. Furthermore, it helped me to know more about the children’s circumstances and special needs if any.
